Mumbai Faces Major Water Supply Disruption Due to Pipeline Burst
**Leak in Key Water Pipeline to Affect Several Areas**
Mumbai is bracing for significant water supply disruptions after a major leak was detected in one of its principal pipelines. The pipeline, which links the Tansa lake—one of the seven lakes supplying water to the city—was reported to have sprung a massive leak on Friday.
**Affected Areas**
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that water supply will be interrupted in several key areas, including Dadar, Mahim, Matunga, Andheri East, Vile Parle, Bandra East, Bandra Terminus, and Santacruz. The leak, identified in Powai around 3:30 pm, prompted immediate valve shutdowns to prevent further water wastage.
**Repair and Impact**
Images and videos of the leak, which quickly went viral on social media, showed torrents of water gushing from the damaged pipeline. According to BMC officials, repair work is underway, but valves need to be isolated to prevent additional wastage. Consequently, water supply will be affected in three municipal wards: K/East, H/East, and G/North. The supply cannot be fully restored until the leak is completely repaired.
**Previous Incident Highlights Pipeline Vulnerability**
This current situation follows a similar incident earlier in the week. On Wednesday, a 1,200 mm pipeline burst in front of Twinkle Apartment on Adarsh Nagar Road in Andheri West. The burst caused water to shoot up several feet, flooding the surrounding area and causing significant damage. The force of the water led to the fall of a nearby coconut tree, which damaged a car, while four other parked vehicles also suffered damage.
As Mumbai deals with these disruptions, efforts to repair the pipeline and restore normal water supply continue.
